About The Author:
Tony Covington is from Winston-Salem, NC and is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Communications Studies. Tony was not only an excellent student but he was an outstanding athlete as well. While at Virginia, he earned All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-American Honors in football. After college, Tony was drafted by the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he earned All-Rookie Honors in his first season. He played for the Buccaneers for four seasons before finishing up his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks.
After a 5 year NFL career, Tony has taken that same determination, faith and optimism that led him to achieve greatness as a defensive back in the National Football League, into the non-profit arena. Tony has spent the last 17+ years affecting change with organizations such as the American Heart Association, the American College of Radiology, Special Olympics, the United Negro College Fund, Big Brothers Big Sisters and currently with the NAACP. His success stems from a dogged determination to make the lives of others better. He has recently completed writing his first book entitled: I AM UNDERDOG, A Journey of Adversity & Blessings, which is expected to be released in June. Tony is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and is the proud father of two daughters, Kennedy and Carter.
